Elysium Sanctuary: Earth-Integrated Hospitality
Subterranean cliff-carved suites combining volcanic stone masonry, curved lime plaster, and infinity plunge pools.
The Client Brief & Vision
Elysium Sanctuary is an ultra-exclusive 28-key wellness retreat nestled into the caldera cliffs of Santorini. Respecting the island's fragile volcanic ecosystem, over 60% of the suites are subterranean troglodyte structures excavated into the cliffside.
Structural & Environmental Constraints
Balancing stringent historic Cycladic conservation regulations, seismic stability on volcanic rock, and luxury thermal comfort in extreme summer heat.
Engineered Architectural Execution
We utilized geothermal earth-sheltering to maintain natural 21°C interior temperatures without noisy air conditioners. Local volcanic ash lime-wash and hand-hewn pumice stone ensure authentic local craft and minimal carbon transport footprint.
